Decorating the house

With all of the effort that we are putting into the exterior of the house, I am trying to get a project or two done inside also. This week I started to paint the kitchen and breakfast area. Unfortunately I didn't have a ladder so I have yet to complete the top trim. It's not done yet...but here is a picture to give an idea of how it's going to look.

I'm not sure who enjoys dress up time more...

Our typical weekend includes a trip to our favorite warehouse club, Costco. Today after enjoying our pizza and hotdog at the food court we ventured into the packed aisles of Costco one-by-one hoping to find large sizes of everything we can't live without. As a wise man once said "if Costco sells it, then we must need it", or maybe that was just my husband explaining the rationale for why we HAD to get something he wanted/needed.

Today I needed another Halloween costume for Joseph. Please enjoy some pictures.

Our *new* yard!

Well, all of our hard work has really paid off.
We now have a beautiful yard!

It rained about 3/4" last night so it looks as if we timed the installation perfectly.

Now to get some landscaping in place to complete the curb appeal of our new home.

Even our back yard is beautiful!

Why seed when you can sod?

About a week ago Joe says to me "you know we could sod the yard instead of seeding and putting down straw...it'd be an instant yard..."

"Really? You can do that? I was not aware that you could just buy grass that's been pre-grown" I said (sarcastically of course).
Joe had decided that the bales of straw were 'costly' and the whole deal with seed and straw would be messy and time consuming and the sodding was actually less expensive than we had previously thought.

So, within a week turnaround time we had an instant beautiful yard. Except for the finishing touches of plants, shrubs, trees and mulch our yard is nearly complete.

Pictures of the nearly complete yard will be posted soon, it's dark out!!

Progress

Joe ran the tires off the Bobcat for two days.

He's got topsoil spread and ready for seeding.

The yard has some shape and is just waiting for some shrubs and trees.

The back yard:

We're going to look at some today during our lunch date. How romantic pizza and a visit to a nursery. Aawww.

This is a spot that Joe has prepared for the play space for Joseph.

And a future flower garden.

Bring in the heavy machinery!

The new house needs a yard. So Joe has taken a few days off to get this daunting task underway. Installing drainage in the side yard along the driveway:

Ten dump truck loads of fill dirt and topsoil was his estimate of what this project is going to take.

He's got a Bobcat to distribute the soil and get the fill dirt to the backyard. Here's a picture of Joe trying to get the Bobcat out of the mud in the drainage area, oooopps, he ended up having to call a tow truck to come winch him out of there.

We have high hopes for a beautiful yard! And next year a play area for Joseph in the backyard.
I'll post more pictures as the yard evolves!!
